Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When looking for a driving school, what questions should I ask?

A. When searching for a driving school, don’t make the mistake that many shoppers do by only asking the cost of the course and where their school is located. Instead we suggest you ask the following 16 questions.

THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS (and short answers) can help you find a quality driving school.

  1. How long has the school been in business? (Five years or more is desirable).
  2. Does the school teach adults, seniors, handicapped, disabled, and learning disabled people, or do they just teach teenagers? (They should teach everyone, not just teens -- the instructors must get additional training, and they're more skilled.)
  3. For driver’s education: does the school have a formal driver's education curriculum as well as a home study course?
  4. For driver’s training: does the school teach a full curriculum of the skills needed to drive and stay alive (curves, freeway, city driving, and all the proper driving methods necessary to pass their DMV driving test)?
  5. Is the school licensed, insured, and bonded?
  6. Will the school let you use their car for the drive test?
  7. Is the school a member of the Driving School Association of California?
  8. Is the school a member of the Better Business Bureau?
  9. Is the school a member of the Chamber of Commerce?
  10. What is the price for your services? Does the cost include gas, insurance and completion certificate?
  11. Are your driver’s training vehicles dual controlled, and equipped with airbags and air conditioning?
  12. Do you provide assistance in passing the written and drive tests?
  13. Does your school train more than one student at a time, or are your lessons private?
  14. If I sign up and pay for both the classroom and driving courses, will I receive a discount?
  15. Can I pay for the behind the wheel lesson each time I go out or do I have to pay for all lessons in advance?
  16. Do you accept all credit cards?
